This house exists for people who are ready to make the leap, even without everything figured out. Everyone here is building with their own two hands, on their own money, on their own timeline. We've cultivated an environment for entrepreneurs, founders, and builders to do exactly that, and we're here to help them along the way."

The collision nobody planned

Nobody planned the first conversation. It happened because two people building different things were in the same house at the same time, started talking about what they were working on, realized there was crossover, and started jamming on it right there. That's when they knew it was worth scheduling real time together.

The exact same thing played out a second time. Two members met at a House Jam, found common ground in the middle of a casual conversation, and one of them went from day pass to member soon after. Now they're carving out dedicated time to work through the overlap they found.

Neither of those follow up meetings would exist without the collision that came first. That's the whole idea behind this place. Proximity creates collisions, and collisions create breakthroughs. We're watching it happen in small ways, even less than two months into this thing.

Two members, two different businesses, one problem they didn't know they shared

What started as a chance conversation is now two members jamming on something real."

The lunch that turned into a masterclass

A members' lunch a few weeks back spilled out onto the porch and turned into something closer to a masterclass. Alan and Colin from Torta Studios walked the group through how they think about growth, and one idea stuck with everyone listening. Motivation minus friction equals adoption. You can strip every ounce of friction out of a signup flow, but if nobody actually needs what you're building, none of that matters. The flip side works too, if the pain is real enough, people will fight through friction to get to the fix.

The other nugget that landed: stop selling and start asking. Ask someone enough honest questions about what a problem is actually costing them, and they'll talk themselves into the solution before you ever pitch it. Nobody walked away from that porch with a growth hack, just a better question to ask their own customers.

What it looks like to just start

Adam is a good example of what this house is actually for. He came in with no tech background, no network, and no experience to point to, and instead of waiting for someone to hand him a shot, he started building his own project the same week the house opened. He's been showing up to jams, asking questions he probably feels silly asking, and meeting people he never would have crossed paths with otherwise, all without waiting until he has it figured out. He's figuring it out here, in public, alongside everyone else doing the same thing. Brainstorming at exclusive member events and community initiatives with other members.

Five things we've learned about proximity so far

  1. The best collisions aren't scheduled. Members don't meet at a mixer, they just happen to be building in the same room.

  2. Different businesses overlap more than you'd think. Three completely unrelated ideas converged on the same problem inside two weeks.

  3. One connector changes everything. A house doesn't need a hundred members to create momentum, it needs a few people who introduce everyone else to each other.

  4. You don’t need all the answers to start. You need to show up and start asking questions. We don’t have it all figured out, we don’t expect you to either.

  5. This only works at small scale. We're not optimizing for headcount, we're optimizing for the density of people willing to take the leap.

Wrapping up

Nobody in this house had it figured out before they started. They had a conversation with someone they'd never met, and that turned out to be enough.

Until next time,

Chris
